Blue-Green Algae Sensor | Online Cyanobacteria Fluorescence Probe

 

This industrial blue-green algae sensor uses the fluorescence detection principle (specific excitation/emission wavelengths for phycocyanin) to monitor cyanobacteria concentration in real time. It features high specificity, fast response, no reagents, and IP68 waterproofing. With RS485 Modbus-RTU output and built-in temperature compensation, it is widely used in source water, lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and aquaculture for early warning of harmful algal blooms (HABs), and can be directly connected to PLC, DCS, and MTW series controllers.

This online blue-green algae sensor is an intelligent optical probe for real-time monitoring of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) concentration, a key indicator for early warning of harmful algal blooms (HABs). It operates on the specific fluorescence spectroscopy principle: unlike green algae, blue-green algae contain phycocyanin which is excited by orange/red light (e.g., 590nm or 620nm) and emits fluorescence at 650nm/685nm. This specific detection ensures high accuracy and minimizes interference from other algae or organic matter.

 

The optical system uses a stable LED light source and high-sensitivity photodetector, with a sapphire optical window and anti-fouling/anti-biofouling coating to resist contamination and biofilm growth. A built-in temperature sensor provides automatic temperature compensation (ATC) across 0–50°C to correct measurement drift caused by temperature changes. The probe features digital signal processing and electrical isolation for strong anti-interference performance, supporting reliable long-distance data transmission via RS485 Modbus-RTU.


The housing is constructed from corrosion-resistant PPS/PEEK and 316L stainless steel, suitable for long-term submerged installation in natural water bodies and aquaculture systems. It supports factory calibration and field verification, with data logging, alarm output, and fault self-diagnosis functions. It is an essential tool for early warning of toxic cyanobacterial blooms, eutrophication assessment, and drinking water source protection.
