Procurement FAQ (15+ Real Engineering Purchasing Questions)

Q: What is the standard measuring range of industrial ORP sensors?

A: The standard measuring range of industrial ORP sensors is typically -2000 to +2000 mV. The actual range depends on the electrode material, reference system, and transmitter configuration.

Q: What is the difference between single ceramic junction and double salt bridge ORP electrodes?

A: A single ceramic junction electrode has a simple structure and is suitable for general water treatment applications. A double salt bridge electrode provides better protection against contamination and chemical interference, offering longer service life in wastewater, chemical, and high-pollution environments.

Q: Can this ORP probe work continuously under 80℃ high temperature?

A: Yes, some industrial ORP probes can operate continuously at up to 80℃, depending on the electrode material, sealing structure, and housing type. For higher temperatures, special high-temperature versions are recommended.

Q: Does the digital ORP sensor support Modbus RTU communication with PLC?

A: Yes. Digital ORP sensors can support RS485 Modbus RTU communication, allowing direct connection with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial control platforms for real-time monitoring.

Q: Is the platinum electrode resistant to sulfide-containing wastewater?

A: Platinum electrodes have good chemical stability and can be used in many sulfide wastewater applications. However, high concentrations of sulfide may contaminate the electrode surface and require regular cleaning and maintenance.

Q: What installation accessories need to be purchased separately with the ORP sensor?

A: Common optional accessories include flow cells, immersion holders, pipe installation fittings, mounting brackets, cleaning systems, junction boxes, and sensor cables depending on the installation method.

Q: How long is the service life of the ORP electrode in municipal sewage working conditions?

A: Under normal municipal wastewater conditions, the typical service life is around 12–24 months. Actual lifetime depends on water quality, cleaning frequency, temperature, and maintenance conditions.

Q: Can the PVDF housing ORP probe be used in strong acid medium?

A: Yes, PVDF housing provides excellent chemical resistance and can be used in many strong acid applications. The final suitability depends on acid type, concentration, temperature, and electrode sealing materials.

Q: Does the combined pH&ORP sensor integrate automatic temperature compensation?

A: Combined pH&ORP sensors can integrate a temperature sensor (such as Pt1000 or NTC) for automatic temperature compensation of pH measurement. ORP measurement itself generally does not require temperature compensation, but temperature data can be monitored simultaneously.

Q: What flow cell size matches the PG13.5 thread ORP probe?

A: ORP probes with PG13.5 thread are commonly installed in matching flow cells or holders designed for PG13.5 threaded sensors, usually with 1/2" or 3/4" process connections depending on the flow cell design.

Q: How to calibrate the online ORP sensor on site?

A: Online ORP calibration is usually performed by: 1) Cleaning the electrode; 2) Checking sensor condition; 3) Immersing it in standard ORP calibration solution (such as 220 mV or 468 mV solution); 4) Adjusting the transmitter reading; 5) Confirming stable measurement after installation.

Q: Is there an explosion-proof certified ORP sensor for chemical workshop?

A: Yes. Explosion-proof ORP measurement systems are available with certified transmitters and suitable sensor assemblies for hazardous areas. Certification depends on the target market, such as ATEX, IECEx, or local explosion-proof standards.

Q: Can the ORP electrode be used for ultrapure water with conductivity below 0.1μS/cm?

A: Standard ORP electrodes are not recommended for extremely low conductivity ultrapure water because unstable reference potential and low ionic strength can cause measurement drift. Special low-conductivity electrodes are recommended.

Q: What is the maximum working pressure of the immersion type ORP sensor?

A: The maximum pressure depends on the sensor model and installation holder. Typical industrial immersion ORP probes can withstand around 0.3–1.0 MPa, while high-pressure models can support higher ratings.

Q: Can the cable length of the ORP probe be customized according to pipeline distance?

A: Yes. Cable length can usually be customized, commonly available from 5 m, 10 m, 15 m, 20 m, or according to customer requirements.

Q: What causes continuous reading drift of ORP sensors during operation?

A: Common causes include: electrode contamination, aging reference junction, air bubbles on the sensor surface, insufficient grounding, chemical interference, improper calibration, or exhausted electrolyte.

Q: Do you provide matching ORP calibration buffer solution together with the sensor?

A: Yes, ORP calibration solutions can be supplied separately or as an optional accessory, commonly available in 220 mV, 256 mV, 468 mV, and other standard values.

Q: Can sanitary clamp ORP probes be used for high-temperature SIP sterilization?

A: Yes. Sanitary clamp ORP probes designed for hygienic applications can support SIP (Steam-In-Place) sterilization, typically depending on the probe design, sealing material, and maximum temperature rating.
